WHEN IS IT NECESSARY TO REMOVE A TOOTH?

When a tooth is severely decayed or impacted by a deep infection, complete removal may be the necessary step to care for the decay or infection. As infection can spread from one tooth to another and quickly worsen decay, extraction may be the key to preventing damage to other teeth. Tooth decay is linked to serious medical problems like heart disease and your dentist may recommend removing an infected tooth as a measure to prevent more severe conditions.
