QUESTIONS & ANSWERS ABOUT DENTURES

Lordstown Dental Clinic is always looking for ways to help our patients get the answers that they need regarding dentures and proper dental care

HOW LONG DO I NEED TO HEAL AFTER EXTRACTIONS BEFORE BEING FITTED FOR PERMANENT DENTURES?

It is best to wait at least 12 weeks prior to a fitting in order to ensure optimal healing. Although the obvious healing is often done in the first 6-8 weeks, the jawbone will continue to shrink and alter for several weeks after. If you take an impression too early, you may end up with a poor fit, uncomfortable design, and expensive additional fees as you will need to alter the impression later to fit your jaw. Everyone heals at their own speed and each of our patients are unique. To ensure that we get the best treatment for your needs, please call us at 330-824-2515 and schedule a consultation today.

HOW DO YOU MAKE A NEW DENTURE & HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE?

Our dentures are designed using a four-step process.
  1. The dentist will take a dental impression.
  2. We will take a bite registration and can help you decide on the right size and shade for your needs.
  3. A complete try-on of your denture is then created for you to test it in order to approve the appearance and design.
  4. Once you approve, we will begin to process your denture. It will be available for insertion a week and a half from that time.
We do have early morning appointments available if you who would like to complete the first three steps of the process, allowing you to have the dentures ready in a week and a half. You don't need to complete all steps in one day, however, we do offer it as an option for your convenience.

HOW DO I TAKE CARE OF MY NEW DENTURES?

HOW DO I TAKE CARE OF MY NEW DENTURES?

After every meal, It is best to thoroughly clean your mouth and dentures to remove any particles of food or debris. Remove your dentures at night and allow them to soak in a denture cleaning solution. Brush your tongue and gums to remove any lodged debris. Each morning, take the dentures out of the solution and brush them thoroughly with a soft bristle toothbrush or denture brush. Place a towel down or fill the sink with water before you clean your dentures in case you accidentally drop the denture. This will keep them from breaking or being damaged.
